Two children drowned in pond at Kanthalbari and South Kanupur village of Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat on Sunday.
Akkelpur Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kiran Kumar Roy said that the girl's daughter Rashidul of second grade girl Rashidul of village Kanthalbari of the upazila washed her feet in a pond near the house. The child was drowned in the water.
On the other side, at around 11:30 pm, the son of Zahanur Rahman Jihan, a four-year-old son of Sabeeb Hossain and a cousin of the child, was playing near the pond outside the Anu House in the South Kanpur village of the same upazila. After that, the child fell into two waters. The locals took the children to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex and found them missing. There the doctor declared the baby Sabie dead. The other child has been admitted to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital unconscious.

আক্কিলপুর থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) কিরণ কুমার রায় জানান, উপজেলার কাঁঠালবাড়ী গ্রামের দ্বিতীয় শ্রেণির মেয়ে রশিদুলের মেয়ে রশিদুল বাড়িটির কাছে একটি পুকুরে তার পা ধুয়েছেন। শিশুটি পানিতে নিমজ্জিত ছিল।
অপর পাশে সকাল সাড়ে 11 টার দিকে সাবান হোসেনের চার বছর বয়সী ছেলে জহানুর রহমান জিহানের ছেলে এবং ছেলেটির চাচাত ভাই দক্ষিণ কানপুর গ্রামে আনু হাউসের বাইরে পুকুরের কাছাকাছি খেলছিলেন। একই উপজেলা। এর পরে, শিশুটি দুটি জলের মধ্যে পড়ে স্থানীয়রা শিশুকে আক্কালপুর উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে নিয়ে যায় এবং তাদের খুঁজে পাওয়া যায় নি। সেখানে ডাক্তারবাবু সাবি মারা যান। অন্য শিশুকে জয়পুরহাট আধুনিক জেলা হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে।
